If your skin looks a little tired, crepey or less firm than it used to, Profhilo may be worth a conversation. We offer Profhilo in Ipswich at our doctor-led clinic, for the face, neck and body. It works on the quality of the skin itself, rather than adding volume or changing your features. So it suits adults over 18 who want to look fresher without looking “done”.
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid injectable made with a patented technology called NAHYCO®. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your skin already makes, and it helps hold on to water. However, natural levels fall as we age, so skin can lose some of its bounce.
Unlike a dermal filler, Profhilo is not designed to shape or lift one area. Instead, it is injected just beneath the skin, where it spreads gently through the tissue. That is why it is often called a skin booster. You can read how it compares with other options in our guide to choosing the right skin booster.
What can Profhilo help with?
Profhilo is mainly used for:
- Skin laxity, where skin looks looser or less firm
- Loss of firmness and bounce, particularly on the lower face and neck
- Dull, dehydrated-looking skin that lacks glow
- Crepey texture on the neck and some areas of the body
We offer four options: face, neck, face and neck together, and body rejuvenation. For example, body treatment may suit the arms, knees or abdomen.
How does it work?
Profhilo contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid. Once injected, it hydrates the skin and has a long-lasting stimulating effect on the dermal cells. These cells help maintain your skin’s support structure.
Because it works gradually, the change tends to look natural. Friends may say you look well rested rather than noticing a treatment.
Your Profhilo appointment in Ipswich
Consultation first
Every treatment starts with a consultation. We go through your medical history, talk about your concerns and check that Profhilo is suitable. If something else would suit you better, we will tell you. After that, you leave with a personalised plan.
The treatment
First, we cleanse your skin. Then we place a small number of injections at carefully chosen points. On the face, this usually means a handful of points on each side. The product then spreads beneath the skin by itself.
How long it takes and how it feels
The injections usually take around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area. Most people feel a brief pinching or stinging with each injection. However, comfort varies, so we talk you through each step.
Downtime and aftercare
Most people having Profhilo at our Ipswich clinic return to normal activities straight away. Small raised bumps at the injection points are common, and they typically settle within 24 hours or so. In addition, mild redness, tenderness or bruising can happen.
For the first day or so, we usually advise you to:
- Avoid make-up for several hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and alcohol
- Avoid massaging or pressing the treated areas
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF, such as Obagi Sun Shield SPF50
How many sessions, and when will I see results?
For Profhilo at our Ipswich clinic, the usual protocol is two sessions about four weeks apart. After that, many people choose maintenance treatments to help keep their results. These are often around every six months, but your practitioner will advise.
Some people notice their skin looks more hydrated within a few days. The firming effect usually builds over the weeks after your second session. Results vary, because age, skin condition and lifestyle all play a part.
Is it right for me?
Profhilo can suit many adults who want better skin quality without changing their features. However, it may not be suitable, or you may need to wait, if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have an active skin infection, cold sore or inflamed skin in the area
- Have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products
- Have a bleeding disorder, or take blood-thinning medicines
- Have certain other medical conditions, including some autoimmune conditions
This is why the consultation matters. The NHS also has helpful advice on what to consider before a cosmetic procedure.

Frequently asked questions
Is Profhilo the same as filler?
No. Both contain hyaluronic acid, but filler adds volume and shape. Profhilo spreads beneath the skin to improve hydration and firmness, without changing your contours. Read more about dermal fillers if you want to compare.
Can I combine Profhilo with other treatments?
Often, yes. For example, it can sit alongside polynucleotide skin boosters or SkinPen microneedling. We will advise on timing at your consultation.
When should I start before an event?
Because results build over several weeks, start your course well ahead. Ideally, allow two to three months.
Will people know I have had something done?
Profhilo aims for a subtle, natural-looking improvement in skin quality. So most people simply look fresher.
