Yes. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus features a 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength specifically designed for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick Types IV–VI). This longer wavelength bypasses the melanin in the skin's surface and targets the hair follicle directly, significantly reducing the risk of burns or pigmentation changes. We have safely and successfully treated patients across all six Fitzpatrick skin types.
Absolutely. The Candela GentleMax Pro Plus delivers high-energy pulses capable of targeting coarse, dense, and stubborn hair that other systems struggle to treat. This makes it particularly effective for conditions such as PCOS, hormonal hair growth, or areas with thick terminal hair like the back, chest, or bikini line.
Most patients achieve significant, lasting results in 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. The exact number depends on your hair growth cycle, the area being treated, and your individual hair and skin type. We will give you a realistic expectation at your consultation. Some patients with hormonal hair growth may benefit from additional maintenance sessions.
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm snap, similar to a light elastic flick. Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™) delivers a burst of cryogen onto the skin a millisecond before each laser pulse, significantly reducing discomfort and protecting the surface of the skin. The majority of patients find it very manageable.
There is minimal to no downtime. You may notice some mild redness or slight warmth in the treated area for a few hours post-treatment. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, hot showers, and intense exercise for 24 hours. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately after their appointment.
Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your session. Avoid waxing, threading, or epilating for at least four weeks before starting your course, as the hair root must be present for laser to be effective. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for two weeks prior to each session. Full pre-treatment instructions will be provided at your consultation.
Yes. Candela laser is highly effective for male patients, including for areas such as the back, chest, shoulders, neck, and face. The high-power output of the GentleMax Pro Plus makes it particularly well-suited to coarser male hair. We welcome all patients and offer a fully confidential, non-judgemental environment.
