Forehead lines, a deep frown and crow’s feet are some of the most common concerns we see. Anti-wrinkle treatment in Ipswich, at our doctor-led clinic, can help soften the look of these expression lines. It can also help with other concerns, such as teeth grinding and excessive sweating. Treatment is only for adults aged 18 and over, and it always starts with a proper consultation.

What is anti-wrinkle treatment?

Anti-wrinkle treatment is a series of small injections into specific facial muscles (or, for excessive sweating, into the skin). It is a prescription-only treatment. So it can only be offered after a face-to-face consultation, where a prescriber checks your medical history and decides whether it is right for you.

We take a tailored approach. The aim is smoother, fresher-looking skin that still looks like you and still moves naturally.

What can anti-wrinkle treatment in Ipswich help with?

Most people come to us about expression lines. These are the creases that form after years of frowning, smiling and raising the eyebrows:

  • Forehead lines – horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Frown lines – the vertical “11s” between the brows
  • Crow’s feet – fine lines fanning out from the corners of the eyes

In addition, we treat several other areas and concerns:

  • Lip flip – a subtle treatment to the upper lip area
  • Jaw slimming and teeth grinding – for a strong jaw muscle, or for people who clench and grind
  • Bunny lines – creases on the sides of the nose when you scrunch it
  • Dimpled chin – an “orange peel” texture on the chin
  • Excessive sweating – most often in the underarms
  • Men – we tailor treatment to male facial features and muscle strength

You can see the full list on our injectables page.

How does it work?

Many expression lines come from repeated movement of the muscles under the skin. Anti-wrinkle treatment reduces the activity of selected muscles, so the skin above them creases less.

Your practitioner plans where and how much to treat based on how your face moves. As a result, the aim is a soft, balanced look rather than a “frozen” one.

Your anti-wrinkle treatment appointment

The consultation

Your first step for anti-wrinkle treatment in Ipswich is a consultation (£30). We take a full medical history and ask about any medicines you take. After that, we discuss what bothers you, what you would like to achieve and the possible side effects.

If treatment is suitable, we create a personalised plan. If it is not, we will tell you honestly and talk through alternatives.

The treatment

We cleanse the skin and may mark the injection points. Then we place a few small injections with a very fine needle. Most people feel a brief pinch or sting that settles quickly. The injections usually take only 10 to 15 minutes.

Your review

We usually invite you back after about two weeks. By then the result has developed, so we can check how you are getting on.

Downtime and aftercare

Most people go straight back to their day. You may see small bumps at the injection points, which usually settle within an hour. Some people get mild redness, tenderness or a small bruise, and headaches can occasionally occur. Less commonly, a temporary heaviness or drooping of the brow or eyelid can happen, which wears off as the treatment does. We discuss all side effects fully at your consultation.

To get the best from your treatment, we usually advise you to:

  • Stay upright for around four hours
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the area for the rest of the day
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas and hot yoga for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours, because it can increase bruising
  • Wait until the next day before applying make-up, if you can

If anything worries you afterwards, get in touch and we will advise.

How many sessions, and when will I see results?

One session is usually enough for each treatment. Many people notice a change within a few days, and the full effect typically develops over about two weeks.

However, results are not permanent. They usually last around three to four months, although this varies by person and by area. Many people return for regular treatments to maintain their result.

Is it right for me?

Anti-wrinkle treatment is not suitable for everyone. We will usually advise you to wait, or suggest another approach, if you:

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding
  • Have an infection, cold sore or skin problem in the area
  • Have certain neuromuscular conditions, such as myasthenia gravis
  • Have had a reaction to this type of treatment before
  • Take certain medicines that may interact with treatment, or blood-thinning medicines that raise the risk of bruising
  • Have an important event in the next two weeks

Deeper lines that show even when your face is at rest may need a combination approach. For example, dermal fillers can help with lost volume. In addition, skin quality treatments such as Profhilo and polynucleotides can help with skin firmness and hydration.

Choosing a qualified practitioner matters. The NHS guide to cosmetic procedures has helpful advice on what to check before any treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Will I look “frozen”?

Our approach is to soften lines while keeping natural expression. Your practitioner plans treatment around how your face moves and what you want.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it very tolerable. The needle is fine and the sensation is brief, although everyone’s experience is different.

How soon before an event should I book?

We suggest at least two to three weeks before. That way the result has developed and your review can take place.
